CAIXA BEST PRACTICES AWARD 2001
In November 22, ten best practices in local management, selected
by an independent Jury, received the CAIXA Award 2001. In accordance
with the rules of the CAIXA Best Practices Programme, they will
be submited by CAIXA for the Dubai 2002 Global Award.
The final selection was done by judging the merits of 20 best practices
selected by an in-house Jury from 136 submissions received by the
CAIXA nodes from all over the country.
The award ceremony, presided by Mr. Emilio Carazzai, President of
CAIXA, was attended by among others the Vice-President of Brasil,
the Minister of Urban Development, members of the National Congress,
federal, states and local authorities and, representatives from
the private sector and the civil society organizations. Mr. Roberto
Ottolenghi, head of the Habitat/LAC Office in Rio de Janeiro, also
attended the ceremony on invitation by the President of CAIXA.
Mayors and partners of the 20 best practices were invited to the
ceremony where each of the 20 received a trophy and diploma certificate.
The 10 awards were announced by the CAIXA President for the first
time at the ceremony. An important incentive was introduced this
year: where each of the 10 award winners, in addition to receiving
a trophy, diploma and video, were awarded US$ 10,000 to be used
in the improvement of their projects. The idea is to promote development
of case studies based on these award winners for eventual dissemination
and replication.
Videos, cd-roms and a publication of the 20 best practices were
offered to all participants and guests and an exhibition was also
held.
The ceremony, attended by 300 persons from many parts of Brasil,
reflected the personal endeavour of President Carazzai to give a
high political profile to the CAIXA Best Practices Award 2001.
