CityNet, in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Council of AIDS Service Organisations (APCASO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Asia-Pacific Regional HIV and Development Project, The Urban Governance Initiative (TUGI) jointly undertook a regional study on "Good Governance and Responses to HIV/AIDS" that comprised two activities. These were the Regional Consultation on Good Urban Governance and Responses to HIV/AIDS held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 27 to 29 August 2001, and The Power of Potential Partnerships: Municipalities and Civil Society, a Symposium held during the Sixth International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP), which took place in Melbourne, Australia, from 5 to 10 October 2001. Please see the Executive Summary at http://www.citynet-ap.org/en/HIV-Executive%20Summary.doc

This publication will soon be available that detail important data of how local authorities and respective NGOs/CBOs have so far been responding to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. An extremely notable part of the publication is the City Action Plans for eights cities in Asia and the Pacific region that put together by local authorities and their respective NGOs/CBOs during the Regional Consultation, and these plans are concrete, precise and scheduled follow-up work plans that mark powerful partnership between two important groups of urban stakeholders.
