Local Agenda 21

"Campaign Interactive" is the website of the European Sustainable Cities Project. It was launched in September 1998 and delivers information on the European Sustainable Cities & Towns Campaign and on the EU Expert Group on the Urban Environment. The campaign's objective is to promote sustainable development at the local level through Local Agenda 21 and similar integrated processes and presently involves more than 580 cities, towns and regions from across Europe representing more than 100 million citizens. The EU Expert Group on the Urban Environment comprises mainly of representatives from ministries of the EU member states. It is the European Commission's consultative body on questions related to sustainable development in urban settings and includes work groups on local sustainability indicators, sustainable land-use, urban design and environmental legislation.

United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development: The Success Stories web site contains submissions of projects and activities that have led to tangible results, involve partnership between different actors, include community participation and have potential for replication elsewhere. These are in the areas of capacity building, education and awareness, freshwater management and industry. The purpose of this collection is to share experiences and information and to recognise the commitment demonstrated by all actors regardless of their size, scope or locations.

The ICLEl’s Cities and Case Reference Databases: The International Council for Local Environment Initiatives provides users with access to two databases containing brief descriptions of activities in cities which are implementing interesting environmental projects at the local level. The initiatives range from energy efficiency projects, air quality, transport, urban development, solid waste management to the use of municipal economic instruments to increase environmental performance.

Earth Day Network: Earth Day Network is the non-profit co-ordinating body of worldwide Earth Day activities. Its goal is to promote a healthy environment and a peaceful, just, sustainable world by spreading environmental awareness through educational materials and publications, and by organising events, activities, and annual campaigns. The network includes more than 5,000 organizations in 184 countries.
