CAIXA Municipal Best Practices Awards for Brazil
The CAIXA Municipal Best Practices Awards for Brazil were presented
at an Award Ceremony on 23 February 2000, at the Cultural Centre
Auditorium in Brasília. The ceremony was attended by, among
others, the Minister of Urban Development, the President and the
Director of Urban Development of CAIXA, and representatives of the
Ministries of Environment and Planning, members of the National
Congress, state and local authorities, members of the Jury and the
Executive Director of IBAM.
The CAIXA Award for Best Practices represents a commitment of CAIXA
to furthering the implementation of the Habitat Agenda in Brazil.
Representatives of short-listed 20 practices, selected among 114
submissions by an independent Technical Committee, received a certificate.
Representatives of the 10 awarded practices, selected by a Jury,
received a trophy from the Minister of Urban Development and the
President of CAIXA.
The majority of the best practices selected by the TAC and the
Jury are local initiatives implemented by municipalities in partnership
with other governmental authorities, civil society institutions,
universities and community-based organisations. They cover a wide
range of BLP thematic categories, including housing, squatter upgrading,
land tenure, urban infrastructure, waste management, environment
protection, community development, income generation, and rural
development.

IBAM, which will initially include the 114 good and best practices;
• Proposals for the preparation of Best Practice case studies
and lessons learned based on the 10 awarded practices and of a municipal
