Other Sustainable Development Awards and Databases

The Best Practices & Local Leadership Programme (BLP) seeks to establish close working ties with other Award systems and databases that share similar goals, principles and working methods. The BLP feels it is important for the people and communities that are asked to submit information on what they do to understand the ultimate purpose of what may appear to be competing demands and requests for information. Similarly, the BLP feels that users of such information are also entitled to know how parallel databases and award systems compliment each other in terms of the information being presented and how it is used.

The Award systems and databases presented here abide by one or more of the following principles:

1. Transparent criteria and selection processes
2. "Ownership" of information remains with those people and organisations directly involved in implementation
3. The information is peer-reviewed and/or validated
4. The organisers are committed to the open dissemination and exchange of information
5. The organisers are committed to harmonising their efforts
